Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
CoMSEQ was a key partner in the successful Brisbane 2032 bid process and remains a committed Games Delivery Partner (GDP) for Brisbane 2032, representing the Host Region – South East Queensland – and its Host City, Brisbane; Co-Host cities Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Scenic Rim, Redland, Ipswich and Logan; and remaining SEQ councils who have contributed to the foundational work to secure the Games.
On 5 March 2015, the region’s Mayors (through CoMSEQ) committed to investigating how hosting the Games could leave a lasting legacy in SEQ by accelerating the delivery of planned major regional transport and legacy infrastructure to support current and future needs, whilst also driving new opportunities for trade and investment.
Following six years of significant consultation, engagement and venue audits, feasibility and value proposition assessments were completed by experienced global experts with direct Games experience. This work culminated in the development of a strategic Games Master Plan in 2019 which carefully aligned pre-existing growth and transport needs of the region, whilst leveraging the legacy benefits of global exposure and long-term economic development. This work is the foundation of the current Brisbane 2032 Venues Master Plan.
Since the announcement of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, SEQ councils and CoMSEQ have been working with all GDPs to ensure that our region is well-prepared for the Games.

The road to Brisbane 2032

In 2015 the Council of Mayors (SEQ) began investigating a regional Olympic and Paralympic Games proposal as a catalyst to expedite infrastructure delivery to support our growing region and to boost the economy and significantly raise the region's profile on the international stage.

The Council of Mayors' (SEQ) Pre-Feasibility Study released in 2016 confirmed the region's capability of successfully bidding for an Olympic Games, but recommended that further analysis be undertaken.

In 2019 the Council of Mayors (SEQ) then released a full Feasibility Study that showed that not only could the region successfully host the Games, but that the event could deliver a positive legacy for the region.

This study followed the release of the SEQ People Mass Movement Study which identified a road map of 47 projects to accommodate the anticipated growth of the region (regardless of a Games).

State Government undertook a value proposition assessment, considering the costs, benefits and legacy opportunities of hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games (the Games).

This work laid the foundations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic proposal, with other levels of Government then subsequently joining the Mayors on the journey.
Together we progressed our vision with the IOC, with Brisbane 2032 being accepted as the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games host in 2021.
With a long lead time, the Games will not only deliver the infrastructure our growing region needs, but also economic and social benefits up to $8.10 billion for Queensland and $17.61 billion nationally.

South East Queensland City Deal provided a long term plan for the region's growth, to support investment in the region's needs in time for the Games.

The Elevate 2042 Plan will see a commitment by all Games Partners to a collaborative Brisbane 2032 Transport and Mobility Strategy for South East Queensland. This ensures key improvements to the region's transport system and that operations are prioritised, integrated and delivered in time for the Games.
Elevate 2042
The need for a strong regional transport legacy for SEQ that delivers long-term benefits for population growth was strongly highlighted in community consultation in 2023 during the development of the Brisbane 2032 Games Legacy Strategy – Elevate 2042 – and remains a current and prominent commitment in the Strategy. Through this strong collaboration and input from SEQ, Elevate 2042 includes a commitment by all Games Partners to a collaborative Brisbane 2032 Transport and Mobility Strategy for South East Queensland. This will ensure key improvements to the region’s transport system and operations are prioritised, integrated and delivered in time for the Games.
Elevate 2042 also identifies a number of CoMSEQ’s initiatives as early announcements activating the legacy journey, including Resilient Rivers South East Queensland, the SEQ Waste Management Plan and the Preventative Health Initiative.
Through our influential advocacy, the SEQ Mayors will continue to work to identify further opportunities to leverage the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, for future investment in our region.
