South East Queensland is home to Australia’s happiest people, Australia’s greenest city and one of the oldest First Nations heritages in the world. Our region is a booming, progressive city region without the bustle and with more time to enjoy it.
The region values being outdoors and active, with riverside cycleways and subtropical laneways, Michelin starred restaurants, microbreweries, fashion precincts and live music at waterfront bars.
Right on our doorstep are the world’s largest sand islands, ancient World Heritage listed rainforests, rivers, lakes and waterfalls, stunning national parks and iconic beaches.
The combination of our spectacular natural landscapes, idyllic weather, awe-inspiring experiences and relaxed character makes our region a global lifestyle destination.
Our liveable, affordable, accessible and easy lifestyle is complemented by the warmth and authenticity of our residents. Friendly, and down to earth, we still have time for one another and for sharing what we love best about our home.
An extra 2.2 million people are expected to call South East Queensland home by 2046 which will require almost 900,000 new homes and just over 1 million new jobs.
One in three residents are born overseas, and our community’s diversity and inclusivity are a natural part of our culture. We always want to make everyone feel at home and allow for room to grow.
With 2.9% annual population growth, by 2046 South East Queensland is projected to be comparable to the size of Greater Sydney today. Council of Mayors (SEQ) will continue to advocate for new amenities, infrastructure and services to enhance the lifestyle of our booming region.
With the youngest population on the east coast, next generation capability and the sun on our faces, our region is naturally progressive, innovative and optimistic, on an unstoppable upward trajectory.
Brisbane is honoured to have been granted the privilege and responsibility for hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.
As Australia proudly hosts our third Games and avidly competes for gold, Brisbane 2032 provides an opportunity for South East Queensland to share our region with the world following a defining decade.
