South East Queensland’s Mayors have joined forces to call for urgent action on key transport and liveability projects in time for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A six-year dream has become a reality with South East Queensland poised to be the epicentre of the sporting world in just over a decade when it hosts the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 2015 the Mayors of South East Queensland unanimously agreed to investigate a regional Olympic and Paralympic Games to bring forward the infrastructure our growing region needs.

Council of Mayors (SEQ) Chair and Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the overnight announcement by the IOC’s Executive Board was an important step in what has been a labour of love for the region’s Mayors since 2015.

South East Queensland rolled out the ‘virtual’ welcome mat this week, during a unique three day virtual meeting of the International Olympic Committee’s Future Host Commission.

The International Olympic Committee has overnight named Brisbane as the preferred host for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
