The SEQ Mayors will experience what makes the Scenic Rim one of the most unique and breathtaking destinations in Australia when they gather today and tomorrow for their first official meeting for 2021.
The SEQ Mayors will use their stay in the Scenic Rim to undertake their first Board Meeting of the year and map out their plans for securing an SEQ City Deal and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the coming 12 months.
Council of Mayors (SEQ) Director and Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said he was delighted the region was chosen as the host for the first meeting of the year.
“We always love to welcome visitors and share the unique beauty of our region with others, and over the next two days, I am sure my fellow Mayors will enjoy the richness of the Scenic Rim,” said Mayor Christensen.
“Importantly the meetings provide a forum for us to discuss issues that impact the broader South East Queensland region, as well as the many opportunities we can work collectively on that will benefit the broader economy.”
Council of Mayors (SEQ) Chair and Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said meeting in the Scenic Rim was a reminder of the importance of working as one region for the benefit of all.
“It was the SEQ Mayors that started the push in 2015 for our region to host for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“We recognised that hosting the Games will be so much more than just a global sports festival, it will be an opportunity to accelerate investment in transport and regional connectivity across the south-east. This is something that will benefit all of South East Queensland, including the growing Scenic Rim region.
“By working as one region, the Council of Mayors (SEQ) is committed to ensuring these big initiatives such as the 2032 Games and the SEQ City Deal can deliver benefits for the region as a whole.
“The next two days will involve some important discussions around what will be a significant year for South East Queensland. We’re very fortunate to be having those discussions amongst the beautiful backdrop of the Scenic Rim,” said Lord Mayor Schrinner.
Also joining the Council of Mayors (SEQ) in the Scenic Rim will be the Hon. Trevor Evans MP, Commonwealth Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, and Mr David Crisafulli, Leader of the Opposition and State Shadow Minister for Tourism.
The membership of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) includes Brisbane, Ipswich, Gold Coast, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redland, Scenic Rim, Somerset, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba councils.
