Eight South East Queensland (SEQ) Mayors and Councillors will promote SEQ’s business and investment opportunities to Asia Pacific investors when they represent the region at the 2017 Asia Pacific Cities Summit in Daejeon, South Korea next week.

Cr Quirk said the 2017 Asia Pacific Cities Summit was expected to attract more than 1,000 delegates from more than 100 cities from across the region, and created the perfect platform to promote SEQ trade and investment opportunities.

“Daejeon is the research and development hub of the Asia Pacific region, home to 100 public and private research institutes, nineteen universities and more than 1,300 technology companies. It’s an ideal location to learn, explore and partner with other innovation-minded regions like SEQ.

“The Asia Pacific Cities Summit is a fantastic springboard for businesses and global cities, and in our case entire regions, to gain entry into the rapidly growing Asia Pacific markets.

“I am delighted that SEQ will be strongly represented at the Asia Pacific Cities Summit in Daejeon. The united presence of the SEQ Mayors will be a great opportunity to present the diverse range of business, investment and tourism opportunities the region has to offer.

“The SEQ Mayors will also use this opportunity to promote SEQinvest.com.au, an online portal showcasing all of SEQ’s investment-ready opportunities in one place,” said Cr Quirk.

Mayors of Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Redland, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba, along with Ipswich City Councillor Wayne Wendt, will attend the 2017 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Daejeon from 10 September to 13 September 2017.

SEQ Mayors’ attendance at the summit will be at minimal cost to ratepayers thanks to the host city, Daejeon, offering complimentary event registration and return flights direct to the summit for the delegation.

The event is recognised as the Asia Pacific region’s premier business and civic forum, providing a platform for governments and businesses to form partnerships, improve city governance and promote trade and investment opportunities.
