A collection of Ambassadors and High Commissioners from South East Queensland’s (SEQ) key trading and investment partners joined the SEQ Mayors this morning to hear first hand why SEQ is unlike any other region in Australia.

Showcasing SEQ’s idyllic lifestyle, sub tropical location and diverse range of industry and investment opportunities, the Council of Mayors (SEQ) hosted the group of international diplomats as part of a two day delegation in Canberra.

Nations represented include Canada, China, Fiji, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America.

Council of Mayors (SEQ) Chair Cr Graham Quirk said the Ambassadors’ Breakfast was a highlight of the SEQ Mayors’ delegation to Canberra and provided a rare opportunity to demonstrate the regional collaboration and investment opportunities that are unique to SEQ.

“South East Queensland is home to one in seven Australians, and generates nearly one fifth of the nation’s economic and employment growth. This is the reason why so many of Australia’s and the world’s biggest companies are establishing themselves in our region,” said Cr Quirk.

“Companies such as Generic Electric, Star Entertainment, Youi Insurance, Volvo Australia and Asahi Beverages continue to take advantage of the economic opportunities and affordable lifestyle options on offer in SEQ.

“South East Queensland is well positioned as Australia’s gateway to the Asia Pacific region, with four international and domestic airports and the nation’s fastest growing and most efficient shipping port. We’re working hard to ensure the whole world knows what an economic powerhouse this region is.”

The Ambassadors’ Breakfast also aligns with a number of key events and activities which continue to position SEQ as a global destination for tourism, trade and investment.

These include the SEQ Mayors’ current investigations into a potential Olympic and Paralympic Games bid, a united SEQ presence at the 2017 Asia Pacific Cities Summit in South Korea, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the recent launch of
